SHELVES

Stores close early.
The man walks
Searching
For the open door.
He finds it and is happy.
There is still food in the shops.
What if the war drags on?
Doors are still open.
However,
The shelves
Are empty.

I think Finland might be the next one in the teeth of the beast. It has happened before and might be the case again. The reader can imagine the man of the poem as someone who walks in Kyiv or, if the worst comes for us, here in Finland.

I apologizes for my potential errors in the Ukrainian poem version.

The Winter War
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Winter War,[F 6] also known as the First Soviet-Finnish War, was a war between the Soviet Union and Finland. The war began with a Soviet invasion of Finland on 30 November 1939, three months after the outbreak of World War II, and ended three and a half months later with the Moscow Peace Treaty on 13 March 1940.

Hunting So-called Nazis Again

Schutzcor1940
A Soviet propaganda postcard from 1940 saying ”the fascist dog growls” in reference to the Finnish White Guard (Шюцкор), the paramilitary forces that had a role in defeating the socialist Reds during the Finnish Civil War. Picture from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

In Ukraine, Russians are hunting nazis in 2022, and they did the same thing in Finland in 1939. Nihil sub sole novum.

Powerful words. I certainly hope Russia doesn’t invade any more countries.

      Thank you for your comment.
I wish the same thing, but Russia has already threatened Finland with an armed invasion if Finland applies for NATO membership.
On the other hand, when we see the situation in the world, Finland cannot afford to remain outside NATO.
All the best to the people of peace ❤

Brilliant poem! I didn’t know Russia had threatened Finland as well. It’s time for all countries to unite against this savage brutality.

No aggressor should go beyond the limits with impunity. This is the 21st century and supposedly cultural Europe. I am ashamed that no one can stop the bestiality.

A powerful poem, holds truth for an undeserved future for many if the path of the Russian war machine does not come to its senses. Wonderfully written ~

Thank you for your kind words.
Like you, I am afraid that decision-makers have not yet understood how Africa, and the Middle East, in particular, will suffer if the war disturbs Ukraine’s cereal production for several years. Even this first year brings a lot of grief and sorrow to many countries in the fall. It will bring more migration to the world.

Love for you and all the people of the world

  10. I love your powerful poem. ❤ A short text with enormous meaning. Hunger, devastation and fear, that is war. I am angered by Putin’s brutal actions and his horrendous lies, that some believe.

I don’t whether I should be sorry for Putin. He is definitely another Hitler. He is certainly another Pharaoh who did everything to victimise Israel. Do we not know the end of the story? We do.

Hoping this war ends soon with grain shipments heading out from ports, with Ukraine’s sovereignty respected, and Russia tending to its domestic affairs only. I hope all the countries that were quick to send arms will be just as quick to aid mine clearance and rebuilding. Thank you for sending your words out internationally. I’m wishing peace (including peace of mind) to you and Finland.
